On January 6th, 2015 5 Press Gallery will host Twelfth Night. Twelfth Night, as everyone in New Orleans knows, is the beginning of the Carnival season. The show will feature several alumni artists, whose works present themes or critical dialogue that are interesting in the context of Mardi Gras. Several works are actual wearable art pieces originally created for Carnival walking krewes; other pieces present social critique while espousing the same playful or majestic spirit that is seen on the streets of New Orleans at Mardi Gras.
Artists featured in the Twelfth Night exhibition are NOCCA Visual Arts alums Sam Crosby, Ariel Jackson, Bonnie Maygarden, Jacob Reptile, and Ashley Teamer. The show will feature mixed and new media, print, painting, and fibers works including a selection of pieces created over the past few years as well as new artworks created specifically for this exhibition.
The opening party on January 6th will include Surprise Exquisite Corpse Parlor Games and King Cake. Costume or cocktail party attire is encouraged.
