Artist and NOCCA Visual Arts alum Jacob Reptile will host our first ever workshop at 5 Press Gallery on February 7th, from 1pm-5pm. In this workshop we learn how to use contact cement to start and finish a paper mache mask in four hours. This method allows for quick building because of its short drying time and the end result is much lighter than traditional flour and water methods. This is a beginner’s class and all skill levels are invited. Construction materials for masks will be provided. Cost of the workshop is $30.
You will need to bring:
- box cutter
- decoration materials (fringe, feathers, glitter, spray paint, you name it!)
Start figuring out what you want to make and then come dressed ready to get your hands dirty!
Jacob Reptile studied fiber art at the Kansas City Art Institute and after graduating learned this technique while working on the set of the Fantastic Mr. Fox play at the Contempory Arts Center of New Orleans in 2008/09. He has also taught this same workshop to the Krewe of Joan of Arc and the Krewe of Crustacious Desire (sub Krewe of Delusion).
