Mardi Gras Papier-Mâché Mask Workshop with Jacob Reptile

Mardi Gras Papier-Mâché Mask Workshop with Jacob Reptile
Sunday, January 17th, 12pm-4pm
$30, max 16 people
Class will be held in Press Street Gardens (7 Press Street, between Dauphine & Burgundy)

BYOB

In this workshop, participants will learn to use contact cement to start and finish a papier-mâché mask in five hours. This method allows for quick building because of its short drying time, and the end result is much lighter than traditional flour and water methods.

This is a beginner’s class, and artists and enthusiasts of all skill levels are invited. Construction materials will be provided, but each participant should bring paint and materials for decorating her mask, as well as a pair of scissors and a box-cutter. Attendees will be able to bring home their masks at the end of the day. Weather permitting, the class will be taught in Press Street Gardens (7 Press Street, one block from 5 Press Gallery).

ABOUT JACOB REPTILE
NOCCA alum Jacob Reptile studied fiber art at the Kansas City Art Institute, and after graduating, he learned this papier-mâché technique while working on the set of Fantastic Mr. Fox at the Contempory Arts Center in 2009. He has taught this same workshop to the Krewe of Joan of Arc and the Krewe of Crustacious Desire (a sub Krewe of Delusion) and at 5 Press Gallery last Carnival season.
